Q: Are there standard tipping guidelines?
A: You can ask your cruise director for individual guidelines. The tipping structure varies by cruise line and services provided. Place gratuities in cruise line envelopes. The following is a general guideline of acceptable tipping protocol:

  • Assistant Waiter – $2 per day/person
  • Bartender – 15% of your bill*
  • Busboy – $1.75 per day/person
  • Dining Room Waiter – $3.50 per day/person
  • Room Steward – $3.50 per day/person
  • Wine Steward – 5% of your bill*
  • Dining Room Captain – usually not required
  • Maitre d' – usually not required
  • Cabin Steward – $3.50 per day/person
  • Room Service – 15% of your bill*
  • Salon Service – 15% of your bill
  • Spa Service – 15% of your bill

*Gratuity may be automatically added; check your bill before tipping.

Q: Don't some cruise lines charge a flat rate for gratuities?
A: Some cruise lines charge gratuities to your account at a flat rate per day to cover services provided. We will be happy to provide more detailed information to you upon booking your cruise.
